Weight: 25kg
Knauf Aquapanel Exterior Basecoat is a cement-based reinforcing mortar enhanced with synthetic resin. It is used for basecoating of Aquapanel External Cement Board when finishing with a thin layer of decorative render or paint.
CHARACTERISTICS
- Cement-bound dry mortar
- Excellent adhesion properties
- Suitable for both exterior and interior applications
- Ideal for smooth surfaces
- Enhanced with fibre admixture and adhesive additive
- Water-repellent formulation
- Permits moisture diffusion
- Maintains viscous stability
- Can be mixed by hand or machine
INSTALLATION
- Ensure that the surfaces of the Aquapanel Exterior Cement Boards are dry and free from dust.
- Confirm that the Aquapanel Joint Filler, into which the Aquapanel Tape is embedded, is adequately cured and dry.
- Mix the contents of the 25 kg bag with approximately 6.30 litres of clean water for about 2 minutes.
- Apply the Aquapanel Exterior Basecoat to a thickness of 5 mm, spreading it to achieve a flat surface devoid of irregularities.
- Position reinforcing strips measuring approximately 300 x 500 mm diagonally from the corners of all building openings. The mesh strips should commence directly from the corners beneath the mesh layer across the entire surface.
- Next, embed the Aquapanel Reinforcing Mesh horizontally over the full surface, ensuring it is free from folds, positioned close to the surface, and with 10 cm overlaps. The laying time is approximately 15 minutes, while the open time is around 20 minutes at approximately 20°C.
- For plaster layers with a grain size of less than 1 mm or for easily spreadable felted surfaces, utilise a 200 mm wide strip of Aquapanel Exterior Reinforcing Tape over the board joints for additional reinforcement.
- The total dry thickness of the reinforcing layer, comprising the Aquapanel Exterior Basecoat and Aquapanel Reinforcing Mesh, should be a minimum of 4 mm.
- The rework time for the Aquapanel Exterior Basecoat is approximately 24 hours at 20°C; however, this duration may be extended depending on temperature and humidity conditions.
- Where reinforced mortar surfaces are to come into contact with banked earth or grit, ensure they are sealed in accordance with current regulations and standards after curing and drying to approximately 5 cm above the top edge of the ground contact area.
- For large surface areas, employ a plastering machine for efficient processing.
Working time:
- Manual: 8 to 10 minutes/m2,
- Machine: 5 minutes/m2
