Erfurt MAV Wallrock Thermal Liner KV600 is an energy-saving, thermally efficient wallpaper that begins to save energy as soon as the heating is turned on. It slows down the rate at which cold walls absorb heat energy, allowing the room to warm up considerably faster, in some cases more than halving warm-up times, thus creating a comfortable room environment with less energy. This effect is particularly valuable in any home where the heating is frequently turned on and off. Once the room is warmed up and comfortable, Wallrock Thermal Liner KV600 continues to work, providing steady energy savings. Wallrock Thermal Liner KV600 offers very worthwhile energy savings, well in excess of the 15% standard Wallrock Thermal Liner provides on typical solid brick external walls.

Furthermore, Wallrock Thermal Liner KV600 has excellent capabilities to cover and reinforce poor plaster and other surfaces such as plasterboard, blockwork, and wood panelling. It also helps reduce condensation problems and, in many cases, eliminates them. As more warmth is retained at the wall surface during the early stages of the warm-up phase, there is significantly less opportunity for condensation to form on a cold wall, consequently reducing the risk of unhealthy mould growth. The surface of Wallrock Thermal Liner KV600 is long-lasting, durable, and suitable for direct painting. It has been listed by the Energy Saving Trust because of its thermal efficiency and energy saving properties.

Note: This product is suitable as a localised ‘problem solver’ for cold external walls and is not recommended for use in fire escape routes inside your home unless the surface is further treated with a fire retardant covering. This product is class E fire rated and should not be used for projects such as new builds and extensions where Building regulations are applicable.

INSTALLATION

• Ensure that base surfaces are clean, dry, firm, and free from any loose or flaking material.
• New plaster is very absorbent and will require one to two coats of Wallrock Primer & Sealer before applying any wallcovering, including Wallrock Thermal Liner.
• Wallrock Thermal Liner can be applied directly over cracked and light to medium textured surfaces, provided they are firmly adhered and stable.
  • In such cases, thoroughly clean the surface and use one coat of Wallrock Primer & Sealer.
  • It is advisable to carry out a small application test before continuing.
• Apply the Wallrock Thermal Liner Adhesive generously to the wall using a roller.
  • Use a brush or spatula to apply adhesive to areas the roller cannot reach.
  • On textured or damaged surfaces, it is especially important to apply a generous layer of adhesive.
• Apply enough adhesive to cover one length of Wallrock Thermal Liner at a time, ensuring the pasted area exceeds the width of the liner (see paste consumption guide).
• Always apply Wallrock Thermal Liner KV600 with the smooth side facing out and the furry side against the wall.
• Apply Wallrock Thermal Liner directly from the roll onto the wet adhesive and slide it into place.
  • Smooth out any bubbles with a roller or similar tool.
  • Leave a small amount of surplus material for trimming where necessary.
• Cut off any excess Wallrock Thermal Liner at the ceiling, floors, and corners using a trimming knife with a hooked blade in combination with a forming board.
  • Alternatively, carefully mark the liner using a pencil and trim with scissors.
  • For external corners, a ‘corner profile’ can be used for a neat finish, or flexible filler can be used to caulk the exposed edge of the thermal liner—especially important if you intend to paint the thermal liner without applying Wallrock Fibreliner.
• Allow at least 24 hours for drying, longer if conditions are especially humid or cold.
  • Wherever possible, allow the thermal liner to dry out naturally; therefore, turn off the heating while the adhesive dries.
  • If temperatures are likely to drop below 10°C/50°F, it is advisable to use low-level heating to ensure effective curing of the adhesive.
• If you do not intend to cover the product with Fibreliner or similar, any small gaps at seams and corners can be filled and sanded prior to painting the surface directly with standard emulsion paint.
  • Use a good quality, flexible, non-shrinking filler.
• To create a superior finish for paint or printed wallpaper, we recommend lining the Thermal Liner with ‘Wallrock Fibreliner’ (this product is very strong and dimensionally stable and complements the Thermal Liner perfectly).
  • Other ‘Paste-The-Wall’ linings may be compatible, but do not line the product with traditional lining, as problems with lifting at seams may occur.

• Note: If applying a printed or textured wallpaper directly to the Thermal Liner, fill any open seams and gaps first and ensure a ‘Paste The Wall’ product is used.

Warning

• To minimise the hazard in the event of fire, do not apply wall coverings over expanded polystyrene veneers.
• Ensure that the wall coverings are always firmly stuck down, as loose wall coverings may contribute to the hazard.
• Surfaces painted prior to 1960 may contain lead pigments, and special precautions should be taken when preparing these surfaces.
