Glass wool insulation image 1Glass wool insulation is only one of many ways of properly insulating your home and protecting it from harmful effects. Namely, the type of insulation we use is dictated by many factors, such as the part of our home we are insulating, since same kind of insulation is not used for your floors and walls, just as some types of insulation are more adequate for your cavity and others for your internal walls. Also, always bear in mind the effects of insulation that are more important to you, is it thermal or acoustic insulation, for example. Finally, your overall knowledge on basic characteristics of each insulation material as well as your budget, may also be an issue. This is why, glass wool insulation is only one possible way of insulating your home.

Glass Wool Definition

Glass wool insulation is a type of insulation based on the use of sand, recycled glass, limestone and soda ash, converted into fibers, exposed to certain temperature in order of enabling its stability and strength through a special manufacturing process and then usually packed into rolls or slabs. Glass wool can be used for temperatures of up to 230° C, it is non-combustible and resistant to rot and corrosion, with proper fire-resistant properties. It is also a light insulation material, chemically stable with low moisture absorption and low thermal conductivity. Another important characteristic is the possibility of reuse if kept in suitable condition, which can be an issue for those with financial difficulties. Finally, for those of you who are interested in preserving and protecting the environment it would be good to know that glass wool is recyclable and its low density reduces the overall impact on the environment. Depending on the type of glass wool insulation you choose, it can be applied for your loft, cavity wall or for sound insulation within partitions and floors.
